Bet Bash Primer

Image
I will not be at Bet Bash this year. It's a combination of the event getting a little stale, children, and work. I am a part-timer when it comes to betting, so I must continue to fulfill my regular duties of educating the youth of America, at least for another 24 years. I'm sure the time will fly right by. I'm not sure saying Bet Bash is "stale" is the right way to put it. I remember flying home last year thinking to myself "That was a blast. In fact, I'm still pretty drunk right now. But man, I didn't learn a damn thing the past 3 days." And that's where I think Bet Bash finds itself - caught between educating new bettors, while not being able to provide enough learning opportunities for seasoned bettors. Don't get me wrong - you should be attending the event if you have even the smallest connection to the sports betting world. However, every year attendance might be hard to justify. I think most of the seasoned bettors and the multi-y...

Stream of Consciousness

Image
I wanted to write a free-flowing blog that kind of bounced all over the place, but I’m just not wired like that. So you’re getting a blog filled with a lot of random thoughts, but still has some connecting themes throughout, like personal stuff, betting stuff, and stuff I want to do in the future. Think of this as my stream of consciousness, kind of like what Jerry Maguire did in the movie, Jerry Maguire. Did you know he titled his manifesto “The Things We Think And Do Not Say”? That title sucks. It’s too wordy and not clever. Actually, the more you think about it, the movie Jerry Maguire kind of sucks. But fun fact - you can read the full manifesto Jerry wrote that night here . I woke up at 4:00 AM this morning because I had this weird dream that my child started talking in complete sentences at 2 months old and started running around at 4 months old. For those of you who live an awesome life and do whatever you want all the time haven’t had kids yet, those milestones don’t happen ne...

Broner Guest Blog - Reviewing The Masterclass

Image
So this is my first "guest blog" as Broner reached out and asked if I would have any interest in publishing something written by someone less funny and less clever than yours truly. Although the time of year when it's good to help those less fortunate has come and gone, I decided I still had some charity left in me. Everything written below is the work of Broner. You can follow him @bronerp4p. I know, the tag is really stupid. I think it has something to do with boxing, which was cool like 30 years ago. He should have picked something way more relevant and hip, like a movie from the 80's. Also, how stupid is it that I tagged his Twitter as if the person reading this doesn't already follow him? The only people that read this shit are gambling Twitter participants and already know who he is. It's like when Field Yates retweets Adam Schefter - buddy, how many people do you think follow you but not Schefter? Anyways, joking aside, I think his review is a very fa...

Happy Festivus

"Many Christmases ago, I went to buy a doll for my son. I reached for the last one they had, but so did another man. As I rained blows upon him, I realized there had to be another way..." -Frank Constanza So a few years back I decided to partake in dry January. Figured I would start off the New Year right, get in shape, take my health more seriously. The first 31 days of the year came and went, and I didn't feel a bit of difference. I was determined to get results from consciously making "good" decisions, so I kept dry January rolling straight into February. Another month comes and goes, and still nothing. My mental and physical health remain unchanged. But I was not to be deterred - we head into dry March. As all of you drunk Irishmen know, your god's day is in March. When the 17th rolled around and not drinking a drop of alcohol had yet to make one bit of difference, I indulged in the festivities.  Eventually, I ran my experience by a friend and they tol...
